What is Tzohar Arts?
Tzohar Arts empowers Jewish girls and women of all ages and backgrounds to develop and utilize their creative talents for the purpose of self-expression and healing, social connection, and building Jewish identity and community.
By tapping the power of creativity, we enable Jewish schools and communities to become more joyous, vibrant, and beautiful.
Founded in 2011, Tzohar Seminary is the only gap-year program in the world where young women explore their Jewish identity in a deeply personal way through art, music, writing, dance, drama, and film. Torah Arts includes Parsha through the Arts™ – a fully integrated curriculum of Torah learning and the arts for elementary and middle school children. Tzohar Women provides adult Jewish women in the Pittsburgh community with arts classes and programming through which they explore spiritual meaning, personal growth and healing.
"TZOHAR"
The Hebrew word “Tzohar” symbolizes the goals of our program. In Genesis 6:16, Noah builds an ark with a “Tzohar”. The “Tzohar” has two meanings: 1) a window to let light in 2) a gem which shines light outward. Tzohar Arts is predicated on the ideal that by allowing the light of creativity into our lives, we can use our unique creative talents to brighten the world .
