What is Tzohar Arts?

Tzohar Arts empowers Jews of all ages and backgrounds to utilize their creativity and artistic talents to strengthen Jewish identity and develop a meaningful and personal relationship with Jewish life and learning.

By tapping the power of creativity and artistic self-expression, we enable Jewish schools and communities to become more joyous, vibrant, and beautiful.

Founded in 2011, Tzohar Seminary is the only gap-year program in the world where young observant women study Torah, illuminated by the teachings of Chassidus, along with creative writing, music, dance, film, theater, and visual art. Torah Arts includes Parsha through the Arts™ – the only fully integrated curriculum, available in English, for elementary and middle school children of all denominations. Tzohar Women is positioned to become the only international Jewish arts program for adult women of all denominations including an online platform for homebound adults.

"TZOHAR"

The Hebrew word “Tzohar” symbolizes the goals of our program. In Genesis 6:16, G-d asks Noah to build an ark and to include a “Tzohar”. The biblical commentator, Rashi, explains that “Tzohar” has two meanings:  1) a window or skylight to let light in; and, 2) a gem from which light shines outward. Tzohar Arts is predicated on the ideal that by allowing the light of creativity into our lives, we can use our unique creative talents to brighten the world .
